Now that the restrictions surrounding lockdown have been ever so slightly eased as a boat seller you can carry out viewings onboard your boat provided that you adhere to the regulation.
Here are some key points to ensure you and your potential buyer stay safe
- The best advice appears to be that you do not go into the boat at all but simply leave the keys for the viewers to open up for themselves and replace the keys in the same place for you to collect later. Ensure keys have been wiped/dipped in disinfectant or similar.
- Where at all possible always wear protective clothing
- Aim to leave 72-hours between viewings. (72-hours is generally recognised to be the period in which any virus particles will have perished).
- Ensure at least one of the people viewing the boat has a mobile phone with them and that they have your number easily available. They should be from one household group only.
- Always stay in the vicinity of your boat while the viewing is taking place.
- You may wish to foot the ladder for those accessing or leaving the boat, in which case step away as soon as the person is at a safe point for you to release your hold.
- Boats on swinging moorings cannot be viewed as this requires viewers and the owner travelling to the boat in a small boat.
- If the vessel is to be surveyed, follow the same procedures as above and put up a sign such as ‘Surveyor working onboard’. Ensure the surveyor lets you know he/she has arrived and left to start the 72-hour count and you also know the surveyor has not fallen or been taken ill.
